What You’ll Learn
This practical, scenario-based course empowers learners to take control during emergencies. It includes the safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and complies with all relevant HSE guidelines.
Training topics include:
- The role and responsibilities of a first aider
- How to manage an unresponsive casualty
- Adult CPR and defibrillator use (AED)
- Choking, seizures, and fainting
- Minor and severe bleeding
- Burns and shock
- Workplace health and safety regulations
- Communication and casualty care
Course Overview
This course gives the learners the skills and confidence to respond to a range of accidents and emergencies that could occur in the work place.
Additionally, this course covers the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). The course is run in accordance with the HSE regulations 1981. This course provides practical, hands-on experience through simulated scenarios and role-playing, delivering the skills and confidence to manage real-life situations.
Upon completing the course, candidates will receive an Emergency First Aid at Work certificate, valid for three years. However, for best practice and in line with HSE recommendations, we recommend an annual update of first aid skills.

Assessment is continuous – includes a MCQ paper.

Learning Outcomes
The content of the course will cover how to assess and treat the following:
- The role of the first aider
- Managing an emergency
- Communication and casualty care
- Bleeding (minor and severe)
- Burns
- Choking
- Fainting
- Health and safety (first aid) regulations
- Resuscitation (adult CPR) including AED
- Seizures (adult)
- Shock
- Unresponsive casualty
Certification
On successful completion, participants receive an Emergency First Aid at Work certificate, valid for 3 years.
Note: Annual first aid refresher training is strongly recommended in line with HSE best practice.
